15 minute sketch of the Roman statue.
Day 2: Write it "Augustus of Prima Porta"
-C. 100 CE (Common Era)
-Displayed in the Vatican Museums
-Discovered in 1863 near Rome
- 6.6 feet tall
-Marble statue of Augustus Caesar - Great-nephew of Julius Caesar - successor of Julius
-Barefeet - Gods were displayed barefoot
-The Ancient Greeks made statues of their Gods/Goddesses but the Romans used their rulers. - Military mindset
+Augustus is wearing military armor.
+Breastplate has Roman deities including Mars (God of War)
- Contrapposto
-Cupid riding a dolphin symbolizes the mythical connections of Augustus to Venus (Cupid's mother)
+Put in place as support for the statue
-Shows Rome that Augustus was a great ruler - so great in fact that he was practically a God.
