Paleolithic Art
Day 1: Draw it
15 minute sketch of the Lascaux Caves.
Day 2: Write it
-C. (Circa, Approximately) 15,000-13,000 BCE (Before Common Era)
-Found in 1940 by four boys in France who were looking for their dog and became a tourist attraction. It was closed in 1963 due to all of the visitor's carbon monoxide, which was ruining the paintings.
-Probably created by a nomadic tribe that was following food. Art Historians believe that they were either documenting their hunts (telling the story of it) or they believed if they painted the hunt before it would turn out successful.
-Made with ocher (clay) and brushed or blown (like airbrushing) onto the rock.
-The cave contains nearly 2,000 figures, which can be grouped into three main categories: animals, human figures, and abstract signs. Only one human.
